Welcome to Anglers Advice!
I’m Jason Kopka, and I founded Anglers Advice as a way to share my passion for all things fishing.
Part of that is to help you navigate the overwhelming tackle and gear options available. And then provide you with solid advice so that you can spend more of your precious time on the water.
But that’s not all. Even if you already have all the necessary equipment, we want to help you figure out how to use all that gear to catch bigger and more fish.
Do you remember the first time you went fishing? I can’t really say that I do because, thanks to my dad, it was at a very young age. Although, I also don’t remember a time when I didn’t fish!
I’ve been lucky enough in my 50+ years to have fished with my dad and three sons all over North America. And we’ve dipped poles in a handful of other countries, most recently in Panama with my dad and oldest son (March 2023.)
During my life, I’ve been able to fish many freshwater and saltwater species. I’ve used many fishing tactics involving various equipment and tackle. And the cool thing is, every one of those experiences was different.
As you know, few things are better than spending hours on the water, chasing after the fish of choice that day. Whether you’re catching fish or not, every outing is always a great experience or new adventure. Sometimes you’re flying solo, and sometimes you’re sharing it with family and/or friends.
But no matter what, you never know what will happen. And chances are you will build some kind of wonderful memory and hopefully learn something along the way.
However, the goal is not just to go fishing but to go catching too. Right?! And that’s exactly what Anglers Advice is here to do for you. To not only help you find fish but also catch and land them.
Our team has decades of experience pounding water all over the world. And our only goal is to help you be the most successful angler you can be.
We want to help you find the best equipment and answer questions you may have about all types of fishing. We also want to provide tips and tricks to help you do more catching and give you ideas for new fishing holes to explore. And, of course, we will always take suggestions on anything else you want to know!
Wherever possible, we provide advice on products we own and have used. When that’s not the case, we spend many hours doing independent research. We always evaluate many options to ensure our recommendations will help you succeed in whatever fishing goals YOU may have. We don’t recommend products we wouldn’t ultimately use ourselves.
So thank you for visiting our site. We want to be who you trust to provide you with the advice you seek to be the angler you aspire to be.

Our Team
Jason Kopka, Anglers Advice Founder/Content Contributor

Jason is an avid fisherman, digital entrepreneur/nomad, and father of three mostly adult sons. He has a passion for travel and exploring the outdoors in his free time.
Growing up in Wisconsin provided many opportunities for fishing the many freshwater lakes in the state, especially with a father and sons who share his passion. He loves chasing northern pike, smallmouth bass, and walleye in particular.
For the last several years, Jason has pursued various interests in the digital world, including freelance writing and creating online businesses he’s passionate about—all with the desire to help people learn more or solve problems.
As he’s moved through life, his love for travel has come front and center, allowing even more opportunities to fish worldwide and expand his angling expertise. He’s visited 20+ countries and looks to add at least one to that list every year.
The saltwater species at the top of his list include tuna, sailfish, and marlin, but the sheer variety available makes saltwater fishing a blast and a new experience every time.
So he’s always looking for new places to visit and fish and is more than willing to share his experiences with family and friends. And anyone else who’s willing to listen!
Calvin Luhrsen, Content Contributor

Calvin is an avid fisherman, outdoorsman, and writer. Growing up in northern Minnesota meant he had plenty of opportunities to get outside and go hunting and fishing, especially with his dad. Whether trolling for walleyes in the summer or chasing trout through the ice in the winter, he got to do a ton of fishing.
As he grew up, those experiences didn’t slow down. He has expanded his fishing trips across the US and Canada to target trophy fish (most recently, a 6-pound brook trout).
His love for fishing and the outdoors led him to look for work opportunities in those industries. This is how he found the world of writing, specifically for fishing companies looking to increase their blog and article presence.
His goal with writing is to inform and inspire anglers everywhere. He is constantly learning, expanding his knowledge on fishing as much as possible to help people catch whatever fish they’re going after.
Whether teaching different fishing methods, comparing and contrasting different products, or just telling an awesome story about his experiences, Calvin loves writing about fishing.
When he’s not writing, you’ll most likely find him fishing for brook trout, walleye, bass, and more on one of the 10,000 lakes in Minnesota.
